BIC’s simplified elevated dam helps operators manage upstream water levels at river sites without grid electricity. A hand-operated hydraulic pump or diesel-driven unit raises the gate to retain water for irrigation and storage, or lowers it to provide more passage for downstream discharge. The required gate position and discharge capacity are determined from the river’s hydraulic conditions.
Manual hydraulic pump: Suitable for remote, narrower rivers where on-site operation is practical. BIC identifies this option for river widths under 30 m and gate heights below 2 m.
Diesel-driven unit: Suitable for larger or multiple gate installations where a portable drive unit can serve gates along a river. BIC’s project guidance describes applications with gate heights below 5 m. Final dimensions and operating procedures require project-specific design.
For a preliminary proposal, provide the river cross-section, channel width, target upstream water level, normal and design flood flows, downstream water levels, sediment and debris conditions, and site access. BIC can then assess the gate arrangement, operating method and flood-release requirements.
